Iconic Mosque

Dubai (Design Competition)

The proposed Iconic Mosque is envisioned as an urban celestial connector - a sacred place of worship that also embraces its role as a civic and social gathering space.

Its monumentality arises from sweeping ribs of white marble–clad concrete, spanning over 100 metres and aligned to the holy axis of Mecca. Emerging from the ground, the ribs gently twist upward, culminating in a surreal, parametrically generated dome that anchors the intersection of city grid and sacred orientation. The soaring 100-metre minaret, formed by the extension of these structural fins, gestures both liberation and continuity, merging seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

At the heart of the design, the courtyard becomes a shared threshold between city and mosque - an inclusive space of integration and acceptance. The approach to the qibla wall is marked by layers of porous marble jalis that filter light and subtly draw focus towards the sacred axis. Within, pavilion-like prayer halls are defined by a rhythm of three-dimensional archways, offering both scale and intimacy as one looks upward. Ablution spaces sit adjacent, linked through a subtle shift in geometry that balances site orientation with liturgical necessity.-The structural system - deep ribs intersecting with jali walls at close intervals - provides both monumental clarity and climatic responsiveness, shielding interiors from direct light and heat while shaping shaded courtyards and contemplation zones.

An expression of the future rooted in tradition, the Iconic Mosque blends advanced technology with timeless materiality. It offers not just a space for prayer, but a place where community, spirituality, and humanity converge.
